Sam Whitney

After obtaining a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Michigan State University in 1977, Sam Whitney worked in several nurseries and obtained an Advanced California Certified Nurseryman’s status before beginning a gardening venture in 1984. As gardening turned into landscaping, Sam obtained his Landscape Contractors license in 1992.  He soon became Owner and President of Samscaping, Incorporated, and joined the CLCA in 1993 with just one employee. Since then the company has continued to grow to 25 employees, including an exceptional Administrative staff, Installation team and Design team. Sam has also had the pleasure of serving as one of the CLCA’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter Presidents. Sam has also graciously earned numerous Landscape Design and Construction awards at the local and state level.

Dawn has been designing landscapes in the Bay Area for almost twenty years, starting her career as a fine gardener and plant designer for estate gardens up and down the Peninsula. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art History, and an Associate's Degree in Environmental Horticulture and Design. She is experienced in designing everything from custom outdoor kitchens to pergolas to low-water planting plans.

Dawn has a keen, modern design aesthetic, a no-nonsense approach to designing outdoor living spaces, and a love for collaboration with her clients. She is adept at taking her client's ideas and blending them with her years of experience to create beautiful, functional landscapes.

Dawn is past president of the Peninsula District Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) and is a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA). She holds many awards for her landscape designs, including a gold medal and People's Choice Award for her garden display at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show.

When she's not designing fabulous landscapes, Dawn enjoys working out at Sundown CrossFit, traveling to New Orleans and Costa Rica, and hanging out with her husband, her college-age kids, and her sassy dog, Sally.

Dave took a somewhat circuitous route to his current role as a Landscape Designer, a position he's held at Samscaping since 2014.  After earning a B.A. in Fine Arts, he embarked on a distinguished career in the videogame industry as a Game Designer and Graphic Artist that spanned over 30 years.  Dave’s expertise in game design included the ability to create uniquely interactive “virtual” environments for many hit games.  This work involved extensive use of computer art software (2D and 3D), enabling Dave to develop a high level of proficiency with a variety of state-of-the-art graphic development tools.

A knack for efficient and attractive spatial design, paired with an inherent love of the outdoors, led Dave to pursue this second career in Landscape Design.  His strong sense of creative balance and keen eye for precision have helped to transform many ho-hum yards into highly enjoyable spaces.  Aside from designing, Dave provides support to the entire Samscaping team and its clients, assisting with site analysis, schematic designs, 3D rendering, construction drawings, cost estimating, and photography.

Dave’s a lifetime Californian, having grown up in the L.A. area before moving to the Bay Area to attend Santa Clara University.  He's a big sports fan, both as a spectator and participant, playing tennis weekly, baseball and basketball now and then, and not enough golf.  He lives in Cupertino with his wife, 2 kids, and a spunky 12-pound Cockapoo named Poquito.

In his own humble words, Frank has been "digging holes and filling them in" for thirty years. He started out with a degree in economics and owned a landscaping company in Tucson since 1977. Lucky for us, several years ago Frank moved to California and began working with Samscaping as our Field Manager. His vast knowledge of all things regarding landscape construction, accumulated through overseeing the installation of projects of all shapes, sizes, and complexities over the years, makes Frank utterly indispensable.  When he's not building beautiful gardens, he enjoys fishing, skiing, and just about anything that involves the great outdoors.

Veronica Mosqueda joined Samscaping near the start of 2018 as the company’s new Office Manager.  Her critical role involves organizing and coordinating office operations and procedures in order to ensure company-wide effectiveness and efficiency.  Prior to joining Samscaping, Veronica enjoyed 6 years of working in management at a mental health corporation.  She has welcomed this career-change opportunity in a totally different field of work, one that still takes great advantage of her enjoyment of working with numbers.  And she always loves any new opportunity to meet new people!
